There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Janeway!

Captain Janeway didn't have the luxury of Starfleet Command backing her up in the Delta Quadrant. Sometimes that meant making unconventional diplomatic decisions, even when Chakotay disagreed.

In this clip from The Transporter Room, Chris Garis and Katie Nickolaou discuss Janeway's unique approach to diplomacy.

Was Janeway's unconventional diplomacy a strength or a weakness? Let us know in the comments!

Sometimes, the impact of Star Trek goes far beyond entertainment.

During our interview, Derek Tyler Attico shared a deeply personal message he received from someone who read *The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko*.

What that reader told him was so powerful that Derek was left speechless. It's a moving reminder of how storytelling can give people hope when they need it most.

ABOUT THIS EPISODE
===========================

Star Trek: Enterprise's β€œDear Doctor” forces Captain Jonathan Archer and Dr. Phlox to confront an impossible ethical question: If you have the power to save a civilization from extinction, do you have the right to withhold that help?

When the Enterprise encounters the Valakians, a species suffering from a devastating genetic disease, Dr. Phlox begins searching for a cure. But his investigation reveals something unexpected about the Menk, a second intelligent species sharing the planet. What begins as a medical rescue mission becomes a philosophical debate about evolution, interference, and the responsibilities of Starfleet.

Chris and Allyson explore why β€œDear Doctor” remains such a divisive episode, examining John Billingsley's outstanding performance, the developing relationship between Phlox and Crewman Cutler, and the personal moments that give this story its emotional depth.

The discussion also examines Captain Archer's leadership, T'Pol's influence, the dangers of sharing advanced technology, and how this early Enterprise mission helps lay the groundwork for General Order One, eventually known as Starfleet's Prime Directive.

And there's an especially revealing moment when John Billingsley shares his own thoughts about the episode's ending, including why he believes Phlox's decision raises some deeply troubling ethical questions.

The episode concludes with a Fleet Admiral Debrief featuring Jonathan Capps, who offers another perspective on the controversy and compares β€œDear Doctor” with the moral dilemmas explored in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Was Archer right to listen to Phlox? Did the Enterprise make a terrible mistake? And does the Prime Directive protect civilizationsβ€”or sometimes prevent Starfleet from doing what's right?

Those are the questions that make β€œDear Doctor” a fascinating example of classic Star Trek storytelling.

Bonnie Gordon really wanted to be part of Star Trek, but her approach to getting an audition wasn't exactly conventional! πŸ––

When she learned that Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Lower Decks were in development, Bonnie started pulling every string she could to get a voice acting audition. That included sliding into DMs and asking for opportunities!

Looking back, Bonnie admits that probably wasn't the best approach. But eventually, her determination paid off!

ABOUT THIS INTERVIEW:

What does it take to become the voice of a Starfleet computer? And what happens when Kate Mulgrew asks you to perform your Captain Janeway impression right in front of her?

In this episode of The Transporter Room, hosts Chris Garis and Allyson Leach-Heid welcome voice actress, singer, and performer Bonnie Gordon for an unforgettable conversation about her career, Star Trek: Prodigy, and her adventures throughout the entertainment industry.

Bonnie shares how she went from musical theater and Renaissance festivals to the world of voice acting, how working at Star Trek: The Experience in Las Vegas turned her into a Trek fan, and how she eventually found herself working on Star Trek: Prodigy.

We explore her original audition for Gwyn, her experience recording temporary dialogue for Captain Janeway, and the creative decisions behind giving the USS Protostar's computer a warmer, more welcoming voice while honoring the legacy of Majel Barrett-Roddenberry.

And yes, Bonnie tells us what happened when she had to perform her Janeway impression for Kate Mulgrew herself!

But there's much more to Bonnie Gordon than Star Trek. We also discuss the return of the Library Bards, her love of music and conventions, her work at Hollywood's legendary Magic Castle, and some exciting creative projects.

From hilarious behind-the-scenes moments to heartfelt conversations about creativity, community, and fandom, this interview is a celebration of the people who make Star Trek special.
